ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING, AND CONSTRUCTION (AEC)

What is AEC?

AEC stands for Architecture, Engineering, and Construction. It is a term commonly used in the construction industry to refer to the integrated process of designing, building, and managing buildings and other infrastructure projects.

The AEC industry involves various professionals, such as architects, engineers, construction managers, contractors, and subcontractors, who work collaboratively to design and construct buildings and infrastructure projects. The AEC process involves several stages, including conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, construction, and post-construction services.

In recent years, advancements in technology, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), have revolutionized the AEC industry by allowing for more efficient collaboration, better project visualization, and improved project management.

There are several ways to collect data in AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction), and the method used will depend on the specific project and the data required. Here are two of the common methods of data collection in AEC:

  1. Field measurements: Field measurements are taken on-site using tools such as laser scanners, total stations, and GPS. These measurements are used to create accurate as-built models of existing buildings or infrastructure.
  2. Building Information Modeling (BIM): BIM software is used to create a 3D model of a building or infrastructure project, which can be used to collect data on various aspects of the project, such as materials, quantities, and costs.

Scan Your Space can help with AEC data collection by scanning your project with laser (LiDAR) scanners and providing several output files.  Some common output files are e57 data files, .RCP, and more.  We can also generate Building Information Modeling (BIM) files at different Level of Detail (LOD).
